Vibe Coding Workshop
In this hands-on, instructor-led vibe coding workshop, we introduce the standard techniques and tools used to code full applications with a human directing the AI to build apps, make changes, and fix bugs. The workshop progresses from the simplest to the most powerful tools and techniques used in vibe coding. We start with Claude for quick, single-file widgets, move to Lovable for structured web apps, then explore Replit for cloud-based app deployment, and finish with Cursor for professional-grade development and codebase reasoning.
Claude and ChatGPT: We begin vibe coding using general-purpose AI chatbots. We’ll show you how to build basic HTML/CSS/JavaScript widgets to embed in your web pages. You’ll create a countdown timer and a side scroller game like this:
You’ll learn how to create web-based apps like this simple vibe-coded Asteroids game.
Lovable: Next, we advance to a tool purpose-built for vibe coding. Lovable.dev gives you a live preview and file structure while you collaborate with an AI agent on realistic multi-page web apps. You’ll learn how to scaffold multi-file projects, edit components, and debug issues interactively. Using Lovable, we’ll create a multi-page bed and breakfast website (see example) with images and bookings.
Supabase and Github: Lovable uses these two tools by default. You’ll learn why these tools are useful and how to set them up for your vibe coding project.
Replit: Next, we’ll explore Replit, an app-building tool that balances ease of use with real-world development power. It lets you spin up multi-file projects, collaborate in real time, run commands in a Linux shell, and deploy straight from the browser.
Cursor: Using this AI-first code editor feels like pair programming with an expert who understands your whole codebase. Cursor is built for vibe coding; just describe what you want, and it writes, refactors, or fixes code across multiple files.
Security and Ethics: AI can generate code quickly, but developers are still accountable for what ships. We’ll explore how to use AI responsibly and safely as part of your workflow.
- Prompting AI for secure code and recognizing unsafe patterns
- Avoiding licensing issues and understanding code provenance
- Evaluating output for bias, hallucinations, or ethical red flags
